Skin pigmentation is one of the major skin disorders caused by extra melanin deposition on our skins. This creates dark patches. It can also be caused by too much exposure to the sun and even hormonal imbalance during pregnancy. Some medical conditions such as Addison’s disease can also be a major cause. Home remedies can be used to treat some skin pigmentation but the deeper ones may require over the counter medication. Other serious cases may require a dermatologist for professional diagnosis.

Professional Treatment
Prescribed creams
There are many creams that should work to block melanin production for example those that contain hydroquinone. Others contain mild steroids and acids that bleach the skin but cause irritation before results are seen.
Laser and IPL treatment
This is a drastic measure where fine light is used to target darker patches of the skin causing dark patches to fall off and new skin cells grow.
No matter the type of treatment one chooses, home remedies may be as the effective as other OTC medications and should be used especially when pigmentation is mild.
