Whether you work in a doctor’s office, hospital or daycare, you probably have to wear scrubs that are either a solid color or have a print. Some employers might require that everyone wear the same type of scrub and the same design while others don’t mind what you wear as long as you look professional and are comfortable while working.
When you buy your scrubs, you need to make sure you get something that the employer desires. Find out what color is required. There are some employers who don’t want any other colors anywhere on the scrubs, such as on the pockets or the cuffs of the sleeves. You don’t want to spend a lot of money on something that you won’t be able to wear.
One of the things to consider is to get cheap scrubs. You can often find scrubs online that are less expensive than what you would find in a store since there isn’t as much overhead. Talk to others who wear scrubs to see if they have any that they would want to sell or trade.
Find scrubs that have pockets. You will find that they will be a benefit as you can carry a small notepad, penlight and other items that are needed on a regular basis instead of going back to the desk to get supplies.
Look at the material of the scrubs that you buy. There are some types of material that, while inexpensive, will end up costing you more money in the long run. You might see lint on the scrubs after they are washed and dried, or the colors might fade, which will give a nonprofessional look. Spend a little more money on a few pairs of scrubs that are of a higher quality instead of repeatedly spending money on scrubs that don’t last.
When you get scrubs, make sure they fit and that they are comfortable. Get a soft material so that you don’t feel restricted while working. Don’t get scrubs that are baggy, especially the top. However, you don’t want to get anything that clings to the body as this will make it difficult to work with patients and children depending on where you’re employed.
