If a person is constantly scratching at their heads, chances are they are struggling with a dry scalp. Unfortunately, many people worldwide deal with dry scalp, and taking care of it can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. However, in today’s age, there are numerous ways for a person struggling with dry scalp to relieve it and prevent it from returning.

    Relieving Dry Scalp

Finding remedies for the dry scalp can be a hit or miss for some. It may be a trial and error situation before the proper remedy is found for that individual. However, there are a variety of treatments and products that many people with dandruff have found useful.

Many people want to turn to natural remedies for their dry scalp. One popular item is coconut oil. It has been known to have a lot of skin health benefits, and the scalp is included in that. It is excellent at moisturizing the scalp and has antifungal and antibacterial properties that help avoid infection. Others have turned to aloe vera, too, for its moisturizing properties.

There are other pantry items people have tried, such as apple cider vinegar, which is considered an antimicrobial, which means it wipes out bacteria and fungi that cause the itchiness of the dry scalp. Mixing baking soda and olive oil is a combo people use to moisturize and exfoliate. Others have even turned to mashed bananas and combining eggs and yogurt to relieve their dry scalp.

Beyond the natural remedies, there are also many products out there that will help with dry scalp. Many shampoos on the market are made especially for relieving a person’s scalp. Function of Beauty can make a shampoo and conditioner to meet a person’s specific needs. Many medicated shampoos contain zinc pyrithione, that have helped those with more severe cases.

    Preventing Dry Scalp

Once a person’s dry scalp is under control, they will want to prevent it from returning.

Depending on the severity, it would be a good idea to do moisturizing scalp treatments at least once a week or more. It will also be beneficial to keep using the shampoo and conditioner that relieves dry scalp. Everyone’s hair is different, so whatever solution worked the best to relieve their dry scalp should be continued to prevent any flare-ups.

Avoid washing hair every day could also be helpful since it could dry out the skin. Along with that, be mindful of styling products to use. For example, it is best to avoid putting anything other than shampoo on the scalp if a dry, itchy scalp is an issue. It is also best to avoid using warm air when blow-drying their hair.

Other prevention tips include getting a humidifier for a home since it could help the scalp not be affected by dry air in a home. Wearing a hat while outside can also help protect from too much exposure to the UV rays.

Nobody wants to deal with dry scalp, but many treatment options are available, home remedies and numerous ways to prevent it from returning. Overall, scalp health is essential, and knowing options for care and prevention are great tools for anyone struggling with dry scalp.
