Physiotherapy is the science of skeletal-muscular manipulation, which is a non-invasive way to treat joint and muscle injuries. This natural form of treatment is becoming very popular, especially here in Australia, as more and more physio clinics are popping up all over the country.

Typical services offered by an established physio clinic

Take the amazing Earlwood Medical Center as an example, where you will find the following services:

Sports injury recovery – Specialised sports injury is available from experienced physios who know how to get you on the road to rapid recovery. It might be a knee or ankle injury and the physio can show you a series of exercises that promote healing, while ensuring the issue isn’t compounded. Many pro athletes visit a physio, as they know that the health professional gives them good advice and if you are weekend player with a niggling injury, the physio is the person to contact.

Pilates – Pilates is growing in popularity and there’s no one better equipped than your local physio to instruct on Pilates. Improve strength, flexibility and fitness with this revolutionary discipline, while under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

Office syndrome – If you spend 10 hours a day in front of a computer screen, you might suffer from an aching lower back or neck issues and your local physio can deal with these issues.

Headaches/migraines – Modern day society puts extra pressure on us all and migraines are more common than they have ever been. The first thing to do is find out the root cause of the issue; there are many possibilities and an experienced physio is able to accurately diagnose migraine and headache issues.

TMJ disorders – The jaw is connected to the skull by the temporomandibular joint, which is known as the TMJ. Bite disorders are common and this joint’s movement is connected to a complex system of muscles and ligaments. This condition can be caused by teeth grinding or a whiplash injury and a physio can accurately diagnose the root cause and recommend the right treatment.

Musculoskeletal injuries – Whether neck or back pain, a qualified physio is the best person to see when you have musculoskeletal issues. Using techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation and dry needling, a physio can relieve this type of condition and show you ways to prevent further occurrences. Spinal manipulation is often used as a way to relieve musculoskeletal injuries and a physio is trained in performing this kind of treatment.

Core stability exercises – This is part of the Pilates course, which is designed to help prevent injuries and build up your core strengths. Part of a physio’s role involves educating the patient about their body, which is new knowledge you take with you wherever you go. Many physios are now offering remote consultation, using Zoom, which is as good as a face-to-face consultation.

As you can see, there are many services that your local physio clinic offers; all you need to do is Google your nearest clinic should you have any musculoskeletal issues.
